Bangladesh to Tour Kathmandu with a Message of Remembrance and Solidarity

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken a historic decision to pay tribute to the memory of those who lost their lives in the devastating glacier-related disaster in Nepal. The first-ever bilateral T20I series between Bangladesh and Nepal will be played in the Nepalese capital Kathmandu in late March 2027.

The series, dedicated to the memory of more than a thousand people who lost their lives in last August’s devastating floods, was confirmed by the BCB through a press release on Wednesday. In an official statement, the board said the three matches, scheduled for March 26, 28 and 30 next year, will be more than just a contest on the cricket field. They will also provide an opportunity for Bangladesh to stand beside the people of Nepal during a difficult time and demonstrate the deep friendship between the two nations. The BCB considers the use of cricket’s power to express solidarity between the two countries during a crisis particularly significant.

The international series is set to take place following diplomatic initiatives. After an initial discussion between State Minister for Sports Aminul Haque and Nepalese Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari, the proposal took its final shape at the BCB office in Mirpur. During a bilateral meeting between BCB President Tamim Iqbal and the ambassador, the detailed itinerary and overall framework of the tour were finalized.

Beyond cricket, the BCB has also pledged long-term support to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). Dhaka will provide comprehensive assistance to Kathmandu in development initiatives, including exchange tours for the men’s and women’s teams, High Performance (HP) camps and technical training.

Although the two sides have previously met only twice in multinational tournaments, this will be the first-ever bilateral series between Bangladesh and Nepal.
