Bangladesh have firmly held on to the reins of the Galle Test, continuing their dominance with the bat on the second day, just as they did on Day 1. Despite losing skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto early in the morning session, the visitors finished the first session strongly with Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das at the crease.

Shanto, who resumed Day 2 unbeaten on 136 with hopes of a double century, was dismissed for 148, caught by Angelo Mathews off Asitha Fernando in the very first over of the morning session.

However, Mushfiqur Rahim is still well on track for a double hundred, batting confidently on 141 not out at lunch.

Bangladesh began the second day on 292 for 3, and added 91 runs for the loss of just one wicket in the first session to reach 383 for 4 at lunch. A total of 27 overs were bowled in the session.

After Shanto’s dismissal, Litton Das came in and looked fluent from the start. He could have been dismissed early on 8, but survived due to a fielding error by Sri Lanka. Later, on 14, he was offered another life when Pathum Nissanka dropped a catch at midwicket.

Making full use of the reprieves, Litton has batted in ODI-like rhythm, scoring an unbeaten 43 off 57 balls. The partnership between Mushfiqur and Litton has so far added 74 runs, and is steadily building toward a big total.
