Bangladesh Push for Big Total as Mushfiqur, Shanto Lead from the Front in Galle

Bangladesh are on track for a commanding first-innings total in the Galle Test, thanks to a composed and experienced batting display from Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim. Shanto brought up another well-paced century, while Mushfiqur returned to form with a fluent hundred of his own. After the close of play, Mushfiqur addressed the media, shedding light on the pitch conditions, his innings, and the team’s overall strategy.

The day didn’t start well for Bangladesh, as they lost early wickets and struggled to gain momentum. But the tide turned with a patient partnership in the middle order, where Shanto’s steady presence and Mushfiqur’s seasoned approach laid the foundation for a strong total.

“Shanto has been in great touch for a while now,” said Mushfiqur in praise of his skipper. “He’s been performing consistently, both as a captain and a batter in Tests. Today’s knock was very controlled and mature.”

Reflecting on his own century, Mushfiqur admitted it brought a sense of relief. “No one likes to score low. But if you stick to the process, the runs eventually come. I’ve tried to hold onto that belief,” he explained.

Speaking about the Galle surface, Mushfiqur noted, “Historically, this wicket tends to get tougher for batting as the match progresses. That’s why a big first-innings total is so important here.”

The veteran also touched on his personal fondness for Sri Lankan conditions. “After Bangladesh, I enjoy batting in Sri Lanka the most. The conditions are sporting, and those who know how to play to their strengths can succeed here consistently.”

Sharing insights into batting preparation and mindset, Mushfiqur emphasized patience and adaptability: “Batting here requires a lot of patience, especially as the ball starts turning and getting older. Young players need to learn how to adjust to those changes. Success comes when you play to your strengths.”

At this stage of his Test career, Mushfiqur views each innings as something special. “There’s no end to doing well. Even a 200 or 250* can be bettered. What matters is believing that you must grab every opportunity with both hands,” he added.

Mushfiqur’s words after the day’s play reflected clarity, confidence, and the team’s unified approach. If Shanto can extend his innings on Day Two and others continue with discipline, Bangladesh could well be heading towards a significant lead and a stronghold in the Test.
