The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will not host the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in India. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirmed this, stating, "They (ICC) asked us if we would host the World Cup. I clearly said no."
The Women's T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in Bangladesh in October. However, the ongoing political instability in Bangladesh has cast doubt on the upcoming tournament. In this context, the ICC had considered India as an alternative venue for the World Cup. However, Jay Shah has explained the BCCI’s stance and rejected the ICC's request.
“They (ICC) requested BCCI to host the event, but I clearly said no. At that time (October), it will be the monsoon season with rainfall. Also, we are hosting the Women's ODI World Cup next year. I don’t want to give the impression that we are looking to host two consecutive World Cups.”
Jay Shah also mentioned that the upcoming home series against Bangladesh is important for the BCCI, saying, "We haven’t spoken to them (BCB). A new government has taken over. They may send us a message, or else I will reach out to them. The Bangladesh series is very important to us."
Bangladesh will tour India in September for two Tests and a three-match T20 series. The first Test will start in Chennai on September 19, followed by the second Test in Kanpur on September 27. The T20 series will begin in Gwalior on October 6.
