Bangladesh U-19 Take 2–1 Series Lead With Rain-Affected Win Over Sri Lanka in Colombo
Bangladesh Under-19 team, led by captain Azizul Hakim Tamim, took a 2–1 lead in the six-match youth ODI series with a 39-run win over Sri Lanka (DLS method) in the third ODI at Colombo’s Colts Cricket Club Ground.
In a rain-hit match, Bangladesh’s innings was cut short at 144/2 after 28 overs. Under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method, Sri Lanka was given a revised target of 198 runs from 28 overs. More rain interruptions later adjusted the target to 160 in 22 overs.
Sri Lanka failed to chase down the total, finishing on 120/7, falling short by 39 runs.
Bangladesh's pace duo of Al Fahad and Iqbal Hasan Iman set the tone early, reducing the hosts to 11/2. The collapse continued as Sri Lanka lost their sixth wicket for just 68. Though Kavija Gamage tried to rebuild, his efforts weren't enough to avoid defeat.
Earlier, rain delayed the start of the match by an hour, reducing the game to 45 overs per side. Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first.
Opener Jawad Abrar, who had scored a century in the previous match, contributed 38 runs, while fellow opener Kalam Siddique failed again, managing only 6. Captain Azizul Hakim Tamim anchored the innings with an unbeaten 67, supported by Rizwan Hossain’s 24 before rain halted play at 144/2.
With this win, Bangladesh U-19s now lead the series 2–1 ahead of the fourth ODI.
