Guyana Amazon Warriors Crush Rangpur Riders to Clinch GSL 2025 Title

Guyana Amazon Warriors lifted the Global Super League 2025 title in front of a jubilant home crowd, defeating Rangpur Riders by 32 runs in the final. Sparkling batting performances from Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Johnson Charles, followed by incisive bowling from Dwaine Pretorius, Gudakesh Motie, and Imran Tahir, shattered Rangpur’s dream of retaining the title on Saturday morning.

Opting to bat first, Guyana posted a formidable 196/4 in 20 overs. Although Evin Lewis departed early for 5, the innings gained momentum through a brilliant 121-run stand in 70 balls between Gurbaz and Charles. Charles struck 67 off 48 balls with 11 boundaries and a six, while Gurbaz hammered 66 off 38, including six fours and four sixes.

The finishing touch came from Romario Shepherd, who smashed 28 off just 9 balls, hitting three sixes and a four to propel the total close to 200.

In response, Rangpur Riders stumbled early. Ibrahim Zadran was run out in the 2nd over, followed by the dismissals of Soumya Sarkar (13) and Kyle Mayers (5) in the 5th and 6th overs. They ended the powerplay at a shaky 32/3.

Saif Hassan and Iftikhar Ahmed attempted a recovery, adding 73 runs in 44 balls. Saif made 41 off 26, while Iftikhar top-scored with 46 off 29. However, Saif’s run-out triggered a collapse—Rangpur lost 5 wickets between overs 13 and 17, going from 102/3 to 126/8.

Despite a late surge from Mahidul Islam Ankon, who hit 30 off 17, the effort fell short.

For Guyana, Dwaine Pretorius was the pick of the bowlers with 3/37, while Motie and Tahir bagged two wickets each. Even Akeal Hosein, the only wicketless bowler, bowled economically, conceding just 24 in his 4 overs.

With this victory, Guyana Amazon Warriors claimed their maiden GSL title, while defending champions Rangpur Riders fell just short in the final.
