Mustafizur Breaks Shakib’s Record to Become Bangladesh’s Highest IPL Wicket-Taker
Bowling figures of 4-0-33-3 say it all—Punjab Kings’ batters were helpless against Mustafizur Rahman’s precision and variety. With an early breakthrough and two crucial wickets in the death overs, Mustafizur not only helped restrict Punjab to a chaseable total but also etched his name into IPL history, becoming the highest wicket-taking Bangladeshi in the league’s history.
The left-arm seamer overtook Shakib Al Hasan’s tally of 63 wickets, doing so in fewer matches. While Shakib took 63 wickets in 71 matches between 2011 and 2021, Mustafizur achieved the feat in just 60 matches. With today’s 3-wicket haul, his total IPL wicket count now stands at 65.
Joining the Delhi Capitals squad for the final three matches of IPL 2025, Mustafizur took a total of 4 wickets. Though he went wicketless in his first appearance, he removed Rohit Sharma in the following game against Mumbai Indians. Today in Jaipur, against Punjab Kings, he delivered a standout performance.
Match Summary – Mustafizur vs Punjab Kings:
Overs: 4
Runs: 33
Wickets: 3
Mustafizur struck in the second over of the innings, removing Prabhsimran Singh (assumed as “Priyansh Arya” in Bangla text). His second over proved expensive, conceding 14 runs, but he returned strongly in the 16th over, where he dismissed Shashank Singh with a 136 km/h cutter, caught behind by Tristan Stubbs. That over cost just 4 runs, without a single boundary.
In the final over, Mustafizur claimed his third wicket, dismissing Marco Jansen, once again caught by Stubbs. Punjab Kings ended their innings at 206/8.
With this performance, Mustafizur not only surpassed Shakib’s record but also solidified his place as a key figure in Bangladesh's IPL legacy.
