Sanju Samson has become the first Indian batter to score consecutive centuries in T20 cricket. In the opening match of the T20 series against South Africa last night, he scored a century off just 47 balls, helping India secure a 61-run victory.
Samson's explosive form continued from his previous T20 innings against Bangladesh last month in Hyderabad, where he scored 111 runs off 47 balls, including eight sixes and eleven fours. Picking up right where he left off, Samson displayed similar power-hitting against South Africa, smashing 107 runs off 50 balls with 10 sixes and 7 fours.
With this feat, Samson becomes only the fourth batter in the world to achieve back-to-back centuries in T20 internationals. The other three players who hold this record are Gustav McKeon of France, Rilee Rossouw of South Africa, and Phil Salt of England.
Chasing India’s total of 202, South Africa was bowled out for 141, giving India an easy win by 61 runs in Durban.
