Bangladesh had a dream start on Day 2 of the Chattogram Test, but a late collapse in the final session saw their early momentum fade. The hosts ended the day on 291 for 7, holding a 64-run lead over Zimbabwe. Centurion Sadman Islam, however, believes the lead could have been significantly larger.
“We were in a good position,” Sadman said in the post-day press conference. “I feel we lost three wickets too many. If we hadn't lost those, we could have had a lead of over 100 runs. We were in control, but from there, we may have slipped back a little.”
Discussing his batting mindset, Sadman explained,
“I don't bat with any specific intent. Of course, when the opportunity comes, I try to go for boundaries. I just play according to the merit of the ball and the conditions on the field.”
Returning to the Test side after a long gap, Anamul Haque Bijoy partnered Sadman at the top and gave Bangladesh a solid start. Their opening stand crossed the 100-run mark — something Bangladesh hadn't achieved in 13 previous Test innings. Anamul was dismissed for 39, but Sadman was impressed with his performance.
“He’s a very experienced and senior player,” Sadman said. “We’ve always seen him score runs. He had a good start today and was playing really well, but unfortunately got out.”
With most of the top order back in the pavilion, Bangladesh will now rely on their lower order to stretch the lead. Sadman remains optimistic about their chances.
“We still have Miraz and Taijul bhai at the crease. If they can build a solid partnership and add another 100 or so runs, it’ll be very good for us. I hope with a strong stand, we’ll be in a commanding position.”
