Shakib Al Hasan Replaces Injured Daryl Mitchell in Lahore Qalandars Squad for Remainder of PSL 2025
Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has officially joined Lahore Qalandars for the remainder of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025, replacing New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell, who has been ruled out due to a hand injury sustained during the match against Karachi Kings.
In a statement released today, the franchise confirmed:
“Bangladesh’s superstar all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has joined Lahore Qalandars. He replaces Daryl Mitchell, who has been sidelined with a hand injury sustained during our home game against Karachi.”
This marks a comeback for Shakib, who has been out of competitive cricket since September 2024, when he last played for Bangladesh against India. Subject to receiving a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Shakib is expected to feature in Qalandars’ crucial final league game against Peshawar Zalmi on May 18 in Rawalpindi.
Lahore Qalandars currently sit 4th on the points table with 9 points from 9 matches. A win in their last group match would guarantee a place in the playoffs.
This development also validates recent speculation from teammate Rishad Hossain, who had hinted at Shakib's inclusion following Mitchell’s injury concerns.
The 2025 edition of the PSL, which was suspended due to political tensions between India and Pakistan, is set to resume on May 17, with the final scheduled for May 25. All remaining matches, including the playoffs, will be held in Rawalpindi and Lahore.
