Zimbabwe's top order once again faltered severely in today's match, with only two out of the first five batters reaching double digits. However, amidst his debut, Jonathan Campbell, son of Alistair Campbell, wreaked havoc on the Bangladeshi bowlers, nearly reaching a fifty but failing to make it a record-breaking innings. Despite the early collapse, Zimbabwe managed to post a total of 138 runs. In the final 30 balls of the innings, Zimbabwe scored 57 runs, largely due to the efforts of Brian Bennett and debutant Jonathan Campbell.
Once again winning the toss, Bangladesh's captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto opted to bowl first. Zimbabwe's batting lineup quickly found itself in trouble, losing five wickets for just 42 runs. Taskin Ahmed, Saifuddin, and Sheikh Mehedi each claimed a wicket, while Rishad Hossain took two.
Following the early collapse, Zimbabwe significantly recovered thanks to a brisk 73-run partnership between Brian Bennett and debutant Jonathan Campbell, which came off just 43 balls. Jonathan, playing a cameo of 45 runs from 24 balls, was dismissed when Zimbabwe's score was 115. Notably, Jonathan's father, Alistair Campbell, also made his debut against Bangladesh back in 1997, scoring 29 runs from 31 balls. Today, Jonathan outperformed his father in his debut match but unfortunately had to return to the pavilion with regrets after being caught on a ball he hit for a boundary.
In the following over, Taskin Ahmed claimed his second wicket by dismissing Luke Jongwe. Towards the end of the innings, Brian Bennett found a stable partner in Anslie Lovhu, and together they managed to see out the rest of the innings.
