With only 29 days left until the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, Bangladesh is set to begin its World Cup campaign with a series against Zimbabwe in Chittagong. During this series, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will announce their squad for the World Cup. Thus, the first few matches of this series are particularly crucial for the 15 players who are part of the team.
In the squad facing Zimbabwe, Tanjid Hasan Tamim is the only uncapped player. All-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin has been considered for the national team after 18 months. Notable absences in this squad include Shakib Al Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, and Soumya Sarkar.
Soumya Sarkar is missing the first three matches in Chittagong due to injury. Shakib Al Hasan will be playing in the DPL Super League matches, while Mustafizur Rahman is resting after returning from the IPL. When Shakib and Soumya return, Afif Hossain and Parvez Hossain Emon might be dropped. Similarly, Mohammad Saifuddin or Tanzim Hasan Shakib could be dropped to make room for Mustafizur.
The series kicks off with the first match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on May 3, at 6 PM.
