Ashraful Backs Bulbul in the Race for BCB Presidency

The race for the new Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president has sparked intense debate, with former captains Tamim Iqbal and Aminul Islam Bulbul emerging as the frontrunners. Former Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful has now voiced his opinion, leaning towards Bulbul as the stronger candidate.

According to Ashraful, Bulbul’s vast experience gives him the edge. “Bulbul bhai is not only a cricketer, but he has also worked extensively in coaching, administration, and international cricket. On the other hand, Tamim’s experience is mostly limited to on-field cricket,” he told the media on Monday.

Highlighting Bulbul’s ongoing contributions, Ashraful said, “Bulbul bhai has already been working for the past four months. His Triple Century Project is a great example. For 16 years, Bangladesh did not have a Level-3 coaching course or umpiring courses, which are essential for the development of our cricket. Bulbul bhai has taken the initiative.”

On the matter of experience, he added, “Both have experience, but Tamim’s is mostly as a player. Bulbul bhai, however, has a much broader range, having worked with the ICC and in various cricketing roles, while also understanding the local culture well. Personally, I would support Bulbul bhai because of his experience and stature.”

However, Ashraful did not dismiss Tamim’s potential. “Tamim is also good. He can contribute as a board director. There are many avenues to serve cricket development beyond the presidency. Even if Bulbul bhai does not become president, he will still be able to contribute. At the end of the day, the main goal is to serve the country. My best wishes are with both of them.”
