Afghanistan are set to tour India for a full bilateral series in June this year. The tour, comprising a one-off Test and three ODIs, will begin on June 6.

The only Test will be played in New Chandigarh from June 6 to 10. The three ODIs will follow on June 14 in Dharamsala, June 17 in Lucknow, and June 20 in Chennai.

This will be only the second Test between the two teams. In the first meeting in 2018 in Bengaluru, India won by an innings and 262 runs. However, the upcoming Test will not be part of the 2025–27 World Test Championship cycle. It will also be just the second Test to be held in India in the month of June, with the first one also coming against Afghanistan.

The series will begin just six days after the IPL final on May 31. As a result, Indian players will have to quickly switch back to international cricket following a long franchise season.

In the ODI format, this will mark the first bilateral series between India and Afghanistan. Previously, they have met only in multi-nation tournaments such as the Asia Cup and the World Cup. Their most recent encounter came in the Super Eights stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

This will be India’s first international assignment after the ongoing T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, Afghanistan will host Sri Lanka in the UAE for three T20Is and three ODIs immediately after the World Cup. Following the Afghanistan series, India will enter a busy schedule, touring England from July 1 to 19 for five T20Is and three ODIs.
