Abhisheks Explosive Fifty Powers India to Easy Win Over Afghanistan

India made a winning start to the three-match T20I series with a convincing seven-wicket victory over Afghanistan in the opening match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Chasing Afghanistan’s target of 157, India reached the winning mark with 38 balls to spare, powered by a blistering knock from opener Abhishek Sharma.

After winning the toss, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer invited Afghanistan to bat first. The visitors struggled early as India’s disciplined bowling put them under pressure. Afghanistan managed to post 156 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. Azmatullah Omarzai top-scored for the visitors with an unbeaten 64 off 44 balls, including four fours and four sixes. Experienced all-rounder Mohammad Nabi also made a useful contribution with 33 runs.

For India, Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers, claiming three wickets for 19 runs.

Chasing 157, India got off to a flying start. Although opener Sanju Samson was dismissed for 10, Abhishek Sharma unleashed an assault at the other end. He tore into the Afghan bowling attack, smashing 82 off just 32 balls with seven fours and seven sixes. Ishan Kishan provided excellent support in the second-wicket partnership, scoring 42 off 33 balls.

After Abhishek and Ishan were dismissed in quick succession, captain Shreyas Iyer (8*) and Tilak Varma (3*) completed the job for India. The hosts reached 157 for 3 in just 13.4 overs to seal a comfortable victory.

Abhishek Sharma was named Player of the Match for his match-winning innings of 82 off 32 balls.
