Alzarri Joseph Fined by ICC Following Match Against Bangladesh
West Indies bowler Alzarri Joseph has been fined 25% of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first ODI against Bangladesh, held in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Joseph was charged with violating Article 2.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to the "use of an audible obscenity."
In addition to the fine, one demerit point has been added to his disciplinary record. This was his first offense within the last 24 months.
The incident occurred before the match began when the fourth umpire instructed Joseph not to walk on the pitch wearing spike shoes. Joseph responded with offensive and disrespectful language.
Joseph admitted to the offense and accepted the sanction proposed by Jeff Crowe, a member of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, thus avoiding the need for a formal hearing.
On-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Leslie Reifer, third umpire Asif Yaqoob, and fourth umpire Gregory Brathwaite leveled the charges against Joseph.
Sanctions for a Level 1 breach range from a minimum official reprimand to a maximum penalty of 50% of a player’s match fee and the addition of one or two demerit points.
