Bangladesh Reach 96-2 at Lunch After Losing Two Wickets in Mirpur Test
Bangladesh went to lunch at 96 for 2 on the opening day of the Mirpur Test against West Indies after winning the toss and electing to bat. Opener Shadman Islam led the innings with an unbeaten 42, guiding the team through the first session.
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss on Wednesday morning and opted to bat. However, the hosts suffered an early setback when Tanzid Hasan was dismissed for just 7 by Jayden Seales. Losing their first wicket at 10 put Bangladesh under some pressure, but Shadman joined forces with Mominul Haque to steady the innings.
The pair added a crucial 67 runs for the second wicket, helping Bangladesh recover from the early setback. During the partnership, Mominul also reached the milestone of 11,000 runs in first-class cricket. However, after scoring 28, he attempted an attacking shot against spinner Jomel Warrican and was dismissed.
With Bangladesh losing their second wicket at 77, Shadman and captain Shanto comfortably negotiated the remainder of the session. Although Mushfiqur Rahim is unavailable for the match due to injury, Bangladesh maintained their position with a balanced playing XI featuring two fast bowlers and three spinners.
