Card Capitals crowned champions as inaugural JPL concludes in thrilling fashion

The first season of the ‘Juniors Premier League (JPL)’, a cricket tournament organized for young sports journalists, concluded with exciting competition. In the final of the day-long tournament held on Friday, Card Capitals emerged as champions by defeating Reels Royals.

In a festive atmosphere in Uttara, the tournament featured three teams. Reels Royals advanced to the final by defeating both Package Phoenix and Card Capitals in the league stage. Despite losing to Reels in the league, Card Capitals secured their place in the final by beating Package Phoenix. In a nail-biting title clash, Card Capitals clinched a thrilling 2-wicket victory.

Batting first after winning the toss, Reels Royals were all out for 97 runs in the stipulated 12 overs. Ikhtiar Ahmed top-scored with 37 runs. Chasing a target of 98, Card Capitals came under early pressure. However, a शानदार half-century from Mahrush Prottay brought them back into the game. Eventually, Card Capitals sealed the title with 2 balls to spare.

Mahrush, who scored a fifty and also picked up 2 wickets, shared the Player of the Match award with Mazedul Islam Masud, who took 4 wickets for Card Capitals.

Reels Royals’ Utso Mahmud won both the Player of the Tournament and Highest Run-scorer awards, scoring 197 runs in 3 matches along with taking 5 wickets. Mazedul, with 6 wickets in three matches, claimed the Highest Wicket-taker award.

BCB Director and Media Committee Chairman Mukhshedul Kamal Babu attended the tournament as the chief guest. He handed over the trophy to the winners and praised such sports-oriented initiatives by young journalists.

In this one-day tournament, each team played against one another, and the top two teams from the points table qualified for the final. The tournament was organized to foster camaraderie among young journalists beyond their professional work.
