England defeated India by four wickets in a thrilling second T20I at Old Trafford in Manchester to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. With the opening match abandoned due to rain, this victory could prove crucial in deciding the outcome of the series.
After winning the toss, India captain Shreyas Iyer elected to bat first. Opener Abhishek Sharma got the innings off to an explosive start, smashing 43 runs from just 24 balls, including eight fours and a six. Youngster Vaibhav Suryavanshi made 14 off 10 deliveries before departing early.
Batting at No. 3, Ishan Kishan steadied the innings with a top score of 49 from 40 balls. Shreyas Iyer contributed a brisk 37 off 22 balls, while Tilak Varma provided the finishing touch with an unbeaten 24 from just 11 deliveries. India posted a competitive total of 190 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Sam Curran was England’s standout bowler, claiming three wickets for 33 runs in his four overs. Jofra Archer, Will Jacks and Liam Dawson chipped in with one wicket each.
Chasing 191, England suffered a nightmare start. Arshdeep Singh struck twice in the opening over, dismissing both openers, Phil Salt and captain Jos Buttler, for ducks, leaving the hosts reeling at 1 for 2.
Harry Brook then launched a stunning counterattack, blasting 39 off just 15 balls with four fours and three sixes before being dismissed. Following Brook’s departure, Jacob Bethell took control of the chase. Partnering with Tom Banton, who scored 39 from 32 balls, Bethell dominated the Indian bowling attack with a superb unbeaten 76 off 46 deliveries, featuring five fours and five towering sixes.
Late cameos from Sam Curran (7) and the unbeaten Jofra Archer (10) guided England to 191 for 6 with an over to spare, completing a memorable four-wicket victory.
For India, Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 40 from his four overs. Axar Patel also impressed with an economical spell, conceding just 20 runs while taking one wicket in his four overs. However, leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi endured an expensive outing, leaking 60 runs from his four-over spell.
