Four days after being eliminated from the T20 World Cup, the West Indies team remains stranded in Kolkata. Due to the ongoing crisis in West Asia, regular airspace corridors have been closed, creating major complications for several teams trying to return home. In such a situation, West Indies head coach Daren Sammy shared an emotional message on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), writing, “I just wanna go home.”

According to ESPNcricinfo, the International Cricket Council (ICC) had initially informed West Indies that efforts were being made to arrange a charter flight to London, from where the team would travel onward to the Caribbean. The plan was for them to leave India mid-week, although no specific date was provided. However, the team continues to remain in Kolkata, where they lost to India in their final Super Eight match on March 1.

With standard airspace corridors closed because of the West Asia crisis, the ICC has faced significant logistical challenges in arranging return flights for teams.

There was some positive news for Zimbabwe on Wednesday. After revised travel arrangements were made, the first batch of their squad departed from Delhi for home. Zimbabwe were eliminated on March 1 after losing to South Africa in Delhi. They were originally scheduled to depart on March 2, but that plan was cancelled.

In a statement, Zimbabwe Cricket said the team would return to Harare in batches via an alternative route. Their original itinerary was to travel through Dubai on an Emirates flight, but that plan was changed. The squad is now travelling to Harare via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Meanwhile, South Africa were knocked out in the semi-final after losing to New Zealand. Their return schedule has yet to be finalised. If England lose to India in the second semi-final, their travel plans will also need to be rearranged.
