Inexperienced Squad, but Captain Shaheen Afridi Remains Confident
Pakistan’s cricket team has arrived in Bangladesh with a relatively inexperienced squad. Among the 15-member team, six players are yet to make their debut in the ODI format. However, Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi said in a press conference that although some players lack international experience, they have significant exposure in domestic cricket.
In Shaheen Shah Afridi’s words, “The players we have selected have played List A cricket and have also performed for Pakistan Shaheens. They know which format is coming up. For us, it is preparation for the World Cup, and for them, it is an important series.”
Although Shahibzada Farhan has not yet made his ODI debut, he has experience playing in Bangladesh. Earlier this year, he played in the Bangladesh Premier League for Rajshahi.
“Shahibzada has played here, Sadaqat has also played. Several players played here last year as well. I think it will be easier for them to adapt because they have played on these grounds and pitches and know the conditions. Hopefully, they will play their best cricket.”
Shaheen also believes the Mirpur wicket could favor fast bowlers. “So far, it seems the wicket will assist the fast bowlers. I haven’t seen it fully yet. I will discuss it with the team management and then make a decision.”
Speaking about facing Rishad, the Pakistan captain said, “I think the batters know Rishad very well. They have recently faced him in T20 matches and in the PSL as well. So it should not be a big problem for our batters. They will play their natural game according to the situation.”
