Ireland Seal Historic Series Victory Over India with 1-Run Win
The cricketing world witnessed one of the biggest upsets in T20 cricket at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast. Ireland secured a historic 2-0 series victory by defeating reigning world champions India by just one run in the second and final T20I. It also marked India’s first bilateral T20I series defeat in the last three years.
After winning the toss, India captain Shreyas Iyer elected to field first. Batting first, Ireland posted 154 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to a fighting half-century from Harry Tector, who scored 53 off 47 balls, and an aggressive 37 off 23 deliveries from Ben Calitz.
India’s debutant Prince Yadav impressed with the ball, claiming three wickets for 22 runs. Shivam Dube and Arshdeep Singh also picked up two wickets each.
Chasing 155, India suffered a disastrous start. Irish pacer Jay Mundra struck twice in the opening over, dismissing both openers, Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, for ducks.
Captain Shreyas Iyer also fell cheaply for 10, becoming Mundra’s third victim, leaving India struggling at 19 for 3. Tilak Varma then led the recovery with a superb knock of 55 from 46 balls, keeping India’s hopes alive.
The match went down to the wire. India needed 15 runs in the final over with only two wickets in hand. Going into the last ball, they required an impossible eight runs to win. Prince Yadav smashed a huge six off the final delivery, but it was not enough to take India over the line. India finished on 153 for 9 in their 20 overs, falling just one run short.
Jay Mundra was named Player of the Match after finishing with impressive figures of 3 for 32, playing a crucial role in Ireland’s memorable victory.
