Madrasa Cricket begins — a new initiative by the BCB President

In Bangladesh, cricket is more than just a sport—it’s a symbol of emotion, celebration, and unity. School, college, and university cricket tournaments are now a regular part of the country’s sporting calendar. Yet, a large section of madrasa students has long remained excluded from this cricketing joy. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is now stepping forward to change that.

Newly elected BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul, in his first major initiative since taking office for a four-year term, has announced plans to launch a “Madrasa Cricket Tournament.” Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Bulbul said the goal is to spread cricket across every educational institution in the country.

“We are discussing a new plan to expand cricket into all educational institutions, and madrasas are a key part of that,” said the BCB President. “There are millions of madrasa students in Bangladesh who love cricket. We want to turn them into both fans and players.”

He added that the proposed tournament would feature a shorter format, allowing participation from students across the country.

“The format hasn’t been finalized yet, but we’re thinking of starting it on a smaller scale,” Bulbul noted. “Cricket should be open to everyone in Bangladesh. People of all ages and backgrounds want to play—so why should madrasa students be left out?”

Bulbul emphasized that cricket is now the most popular sport in Bangladesh, and every segment of society deserves a chance to take part.

Sports enthusiasts across the country have welcomed the BCB’s new initiative, viewing it as a progressive step toward inclusion. Many believe that involving madrasa students in sports will not only aid their personal and social development but also send a powerful positive message for the nation as a whole.

Bulbul’s announcement could mark the beginning of a new chapter in Bangladesh cricket—one where madrasa students, too, dream with a bat and ball in hand.
