Ministry of Youth and Sports Stands by Hridoy, Takes Responsibility for His Treatment
The Ministry of Youth and Sports has provided financial assistance of BDT 500,000 for the treatment of promising cricketer Mehedi Hasan (Hridoy), who has been diagnosed with cancer.
At a ceremony held on Saturday (July 5) at the Youth Bhaban in Motijheel, State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque handed over a cheque worth BDT 500,000 on behalf of the ministry to Hridoy’s father, Abul Kashem.
Speaking at the event, the State Minister said that after a video highlighting Hridoy’s battle with cancer came to the attention of the Prime Minister, she instructed the authorities to take immediate steps to assist him. Following her directive, the ministry has extended financial support to help cover the cost of Hridoy’s treatment.
He also said that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has arranged the necessary support for Hridoy’s medical treatment. The State Minister assured that the Ministry of Youth and Sports would continue to stand by Hridoy until he makes a full recovery. He also wished the young cricketer a speedy recovery.
Youth and Sports Secretary Md. Mahbub-ul-Alam, who was also present at the event, said that supporting athletes during times of illness and hardship is one of the ministry’s key responsibilities. He described the financial grant as a symbolic initiative and added that the ministry would continue its commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to athletes across the country whenever they face difficult circumstances.
