Excitement filled the BPL ground right from the start of the day. Runs, a tense chase, and late drama combined to make the match between Sylhet Titans and Dhaka Capitals a thrilling contest. In the end, Sylhet walked off the field with a narrow 6-run victory.
Chasing a target of 174, Dhaka Capitals came under pressure early on. Holding one end together, however, Shamim Hossain Patwari breathed life back into the contest. He launched a late onslaught on his own, but could not completely turn around what seemed a lost cause. Shamim remained unbeaten after smashing a blistering 81 off 43 balls, yet Dhaka were restricted to 167.
With the bat, Shamim Patwari has regularly showcased his power-hitting ability in the BPL. His recent international performances, however, have not been very reassuring. Even during that difficult phase, Bangladesh T20 captain Litton Das continued to show faith in him. When Shamim was left out at the start of the Ireland series, that decision also drew criticism from fans directed at Litton.
After Dhaka’s match, Shamim came to the post-match press conference and publicly thanked Litton Das for that trust. Highlighting the captain’s belief in him, Shamim said, “First of all, I want to thank Litton bhai. He has shown a lot of trust in me. I have played match-winning knocks before. Two or three bad matches can happen—it’s not a big deal. If everyone supports you, it becomes much easier to make a strong comeback.”
Shamim also spoke about his mental preparation and future plans during the press conference. Explaining how he stayed composed even during tough times, he said, “Of course, during the bad phase I stayed focused. I followed my own process and kept practicing. I’m not thinking about the World Cup right now. I’m playing a good tournament here. I’m trying to do well here so that if I get an opportunity for the World Cup, it will be good preparation for me.”
Reflecting on the heartbreak of defeat, Shamim added, “When you lose a match, there is obviously regret. But I had belief—as long as I was there, I trusted myself that I could do it. If I had gotten a bit of support, then easily… I think the wicket was very good. The match could have been taken out quite easily.”
