Rangpur claim five-wicket win over Chattogram
Rangpur Riders defeated Chattogram Royals by five wickets in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). In the match played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Chattogram posted a moderate total after batting first but failed to defend it in the end.
After losing the toss, Chattogram Royals batted first and scored 169 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs. Wicketkeeper-batter Adam Rossington was the standout performer for Chattogram, playing a crucial knock of 58 runs off 41 balls. Hasan Nawaz contributed 46 runs, while Aamer Jamal provided a late flourish with an unbeaten 19 off 10 balls. For Rangpur, Akif Javed and Mustafizur Rahman picked up two wickets each.
Chasing a target of 170, Rangpur Riders lost Litton Das early. Before being dismissed for 10 runs by Shoriful Islam, Litton completed 6,000 runs in T20 cricket. Rangpur then accelerated through aggressive batting from Kyle Mayers, who smashed 50 runs off just 25 balls before getting out.
In the middle overs, Dawid Malan scored 30 runs, but Chattogram’s bowlers kept the contest alive by striking at regular intervals. Shoriful Islam was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets.
However, Rangpur’s middle-order batters held their nerve in the closing stages. Contributions from Mahmudullah Riyad (30) and Khushdil Shah (22) took the team close to victory. Rangpur Riders eventually reached the target, scoring 170 for 5 in 18.5 overs to seal a five-wicket win.
