Rangpur Clinches NCL T20 Title, Defeats Dhaka Metro by 5 Wickets
Rangpur emerged as the champions of the NCL T20, defeating Dhaka Metro by 5 wickets. Despite an early scare while chasing a modest target of 63 runs, Rangpur achieved the target in just 11.2 overs.
Chasing a low target of 63, Rangpur initially struggled but managed to score 14 runs without losing any wickets. However, they quickly found themselves in trouble, losing 4 wickets for just 18 runs after adding just 4 more runs to the total. Captain Akbar Ali was dismissed for a golden duck, and then a run-out saw Rangpur in a precarious position.
A 24-run partnership between Ariful Haque and Tanvir Haider for the fifth wicket steadied the ship. Ariful was dismissed for 14 by Rakibul Hasan, leaving Tanvir and Enamul Haque Anam to finish the job. Anam hit a boundary off Rakibul Hasan to seal the victory for Rangpur, remaining unbeaten on 14 runs from 9 balls, including 3 fours. Tanvir also stayed unbeaten on 8 runs from 20 balls.
Dhaka Metro’s Alis Al Islam took 2 wickets, while Abu Haider Rony and Rakibul Hasan each took 1 wicket.
Earlier, Dhaka Metro, batting first after losing the toss, posted only 62 runs. Shamshur Rahman Shuvo was the top scorer with 14 runs, and Abu Haider Rony contributed 13 runs. No other batter reached double figures, and the team was bowled out for just 62 runs in 16.3 overs. Mukidul Islam Mugdho, who took 3 wickets in the final, was named the Player of the Match for his performance in dismissing 3 Dhaka Metro batters.
