Roston Chase Named West Indies Test Captain Ahead of Australia Series

Roston Chase has been appointed as the new Test captain of the West Indies, replacing Kraigg Brathwaite, who stepped down from the role in March. This marks a significant return for Chase, who last played a Test match more than two years ago.

The 33-year-old all-rounder will lead the West Indies in their upcoming three-match home Test series against Australia, starting June 25 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, his home ground. Chase will be joined by left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican as vice-captain.

While Chase has previously captained West Indies once in both ODI and T20I formats, this will be his first assignment as Test captain, and notably, it will also be his 50th Test appearance.

Since making his debut in 2016, Chase has played 49 Test matches, scoring 2,265 runs at an average of 26.33, including five centuries. With the ball, he has claimed 85 wickets, including a memorable 8 for 60 against England in Bridgetown in 2019.

This leadership change comes as West Indies aim to rejuvenate their red-ball side and build consistency, especially against top-tier opponents like Australia.
