Rubel Hossain retires from international cricket
Experienced Bangladesh national team pacer Rubel Hossain has announced his retirement from international cricket. At the age of 36, he made the decision through an emotional Facebook post, where he described wearing the national jersey as the greatest achievement and deepest emotion of his life.
The right-arm pacer had a long international career, taking 36 Test wickets, 129 ODI wickets, and 28 T20 international wickets. He last played for the national team during the New Zealand tour in 2021. Later, he was last seen in domestic cricket representing Prime Bank Cricket Club in 2024.
In his Facebook message, Rubel said:
“I am pacer Rubel Hossain. I have played 27 Tests, 104 ODIs, and 28 T20 Internationals in the Bangladesh jersey. The national team is my passion. But at some point, I had to say goodbye to international cricket. Thinking about that, I have decided to retire from international cricket. However, I intend to continue playing domestic cricket. I would like to thank my family, friends, members of the media, and my fans. I hope you will continue to keep me in your support in the days ahead. Much love to everyone.”
The most memorable moment of Rubel’s career came during the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup against England in Adelaide. In that match, he took 4 wickets for 53 runs in 9.3 overs, leading Bangladesh to a historic victory and helping the team secure a place in the quarter-finals for the first time.
