Scotland is now at the top of Group 'B' after their first-ever win against Namibia in the World Cup. Scotland secured a 5-wicket victory in this match. Namibia scored 155 runs for 9 wickets. In response, Scotland reached the target with 9 balls to spare.
On Thursday night at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Namibia opted to bat first. They lost a wicket early in their innings. After recovering from the initial setback, Nicholas Davin and Jane Frankling started to build the innings. The partnership broke when Frankling was dismissed. In the power play, Namibia scored 48 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.
Namibia's captain, Gerard Erasmus, held one end steady. He scored 52 runs off 31 balls with five boundaries and two sixes. With Erasmus's innings providing the backbone, Namibia managed to put up a fighting total. Jane Green supported him well, scoring 28 runs off 27 balls. Apart from David Wiese and Smith, no other batsman reached double figures, resulting in Namibia finishing at 155 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs.
For Scotland, Brad Wheal took the highest number of wickets with three, while Brad Currie took two.
Chasing a target of 156 runs, Scotland achieved the victory in 18.3 overs. The Scottish team's first wicket fell at a score of 23 runs. Before getting out, Michael Jones scored 26 runs off 20 balls with the team score at 49. From there, captain Richie Berrington formed a partnership with Michael Leask.
The fifth-wicket partnership added 74 runs off 41 balls. Leask played a crucial role, contributing 35 runs off 17 balls with four sixes. Although Leask was dismissed at the end of the 18th over, Berrington and Chris Greaves had no trouble scoring the remaining runs. Captain Berrington remained unbeaten, scoring 47 runs off 35 balls, including two fours and two sixes. Brad Wheal took 3 wickets for 33 runs against Scotland. Leask was awarded the Player of the Match.
With this victory against Namibia, Scotland has risen to the top of their group. The points tally for Scotland now stands at 3, following a rain-affected match against England and this win.
