Shakib Makes Explosive Claim of Tk 10 Million Demand to Remove His Name From Case
Caught between legal troubles off the field and hopes of returning to the national team, Shakib Al Hasan has opened up about some of the most sensitive issues in his life after a long silence. The former Bangladesh captain spoke candidly about the country’s current situation, the case filed against him, security concerns, and his desire to return to cricket. During the interview, he also made a shocking allegation — that he was asked for Tk 10 million in exchange for removing his name from a case.
Speaking about the proposal to remove his name from the case, the former all-rounder said, “They said if I paid Tk 10 million, they would remove my name from the case. But those saying this do not understand that once a case is filed, a name cannot simply be removed at will. In the end, the police investigation will determine whether I had any involvement or not.”
The former Bangladesh captain also explained who conveyed the proposal. Shakib said the message was passed on through several individuals connected to the contact person mentioned on the FIR from the complainant’s side. However, he did not want to disclose exactly who contacted him.
Shakib also shared his reaction after receiving the proposal. He said, “Why should I do this by paying money? Paying money would mean that I have a problem and I want to save myself from it. Maybe they thought I have a lot of money and can pay whenever I want.”
The world-renowned all-rounder also clarified his current stance on returning to Bangladesh. According to him, there is no legal barrier to his return, but ensuring his security and lifting the travel restriction are essential.
Speaking on the matter, Shakib said, “I want normal security and for the travel restriction to be lifted. These two issues are very important for me. Until the restriction on leaving the country is removed, it will not be possible for me to return.”
However, he also said he is not afraid of being arrested. Rather, his concern lies elsewhere. Shakib fears possible personal attacks or unexpected situations if he returns to the country.
Expressing those concerns, he said, “There could be mob attacks, or something could happen due to personal hostility. At the very least, there should be a place where someone would take responsibility if I am in danger.”
Explaining his political position, he added, “What may not seem right today might seem right five or ten years later. People repeatedly forget that I became a Member of Parliament from a specific constituency. I won because the people of that area voted for me. If they had not voted for me, I would not have won. The entire country did not vote for me.”
