Soumya Sarkar Ruled Out, Doubtful for BPL

Soumya Sarkar, who recently led Rangpur Riders to the championship in the Global Super League, earning both the Player of the Tournament and top-scorer honors, has been sidelined due to injury. He carried his stellar form into the series against the West Indies, scoring 19, 2, and 73 in the ODI series and 43 and 11 in the T20Is. However, he has now been ruled out of the third T20I due to injury.

The incident occurred during the third ball of the seventh over in the West Indies innings. Rovman Powell edged a delivery from Tanzim Hasan Sakib to the slip cordon. Positioned at first slip, Soumya not only missed the catch but also injured himself in the process. He was forced to leave the field after sustaining an injury to his finger and was later taken to a hospital for scans.

Following the match, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) stated, "Bangladesh batter Soumya Sarkar sustained a finger injury during the second T20I against the West Indies at St. Vincent, which could keep him out of action for about three weeks. He injured the index finger of his right hand while attempting a catch in the seventh over of the West Indies innings and did not take any further part in the match."

National team physiotherapist Bayezidul Islam Khan provided further details, saying, "Soumya suffered a cut injury on the index finger of his right hand while fielding, requiring five stitches. An X-ray conducted after the match revealed subluxation at the affected area. It may take approximately three to four weeks for him to recover."

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is scheduled to begin in the last week of this month. This injury has cast serious doubt on Soumya Sarkar's participation in the tournament.
