Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Among the Worlds Most Beautiful Grounds
Nestled at the foothills of Sylhet’s picturesque tea gardens, the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium (SICS) stands as a breathtaking symbol of Bangladesh’s natural beauty. Located in the land of “two leaves and a bud,” the stadium blends seamlessly into the region’s lush green landscape. To the northeast lies an endless stretch of tea estates, while the west side features a scenic green gallery built into the hillside — mirroring the area’s serene charm.
Cricketers from home and abroad have long been captivated by the stadium’s beauty and atmosphere. Those who have played here often describe it as one of the most stunning cricket venues they’ve ever experienced. Now, that beauty has received international recognition.
The UK-based cricket news portal Cricket365 has ranked Sylhet International Cricket Stadium fifth among the seven most beautiful cricket stadiums in the world, placing it ahead of the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in the West Indies and even the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground in England.
Built in 2007, the stadium earned glowing praise from Cricket365, which wrote:
“Situated in northeastern Bangladesh among rolling hills and tea gardens, the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium is a treat for the eyes. Surrounded by lush greenery, it feels as though the game is being played in a green paradise. The backdrop of Sylhet’s natural scenery becomes especially magical during the early morning or at dusk, when mist settles over the hills and twilight light bathes the field.”
Beyond its beauty, the stadium also represents a milestone in Bangladesh’s cricket infrastructure. It features four modern dressing rooms, a gymnasium for players, and practice nets on both ends. To the south of the main ground lies a second field, now recognized as Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Ground 2.
This secondary facility includes concrete structures with modern dressing rooms, a President’s Box, and a Media Center, as well as nine center wickets and eight practice wickets on each side — offering top-notch training conditions.
The second ground officially debuted in October 2021 with matches from the National Cricket League, and since then has hosted regular domestic fixtures. During international tours and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) seasons, it also serves as a key practice venue.
Alongside Sylhet, Cricket365’s list features:
Newlands Cricket Stadium (South Africa)
Adelaide Oval (Australia)
HPCA Stadium, Dharamshala (India)
Gwadar Cricket Stadium (Pakistan)
Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium (West Indies)
Lord’s Cricket Ground (England)
In this green haven, cricket is more than just a sport — it’s an experience. Sylhet International Cricket Stadium embodies the harmony of nature and the game, creating a story of beauty where cricket meets tranquility.
