Sylhet sign Zazai as Mathews and Jones pull out of the BPL
While preparing their squad for the new season of the Bangladesh Premier League, Sylhet Titans have experienced a mix of good news and disappointment. On one hand, a new face has joined the team, while on the other, two overseas players have been forced out of their plans at the last moment.
Afghanistan’s explosive opener Hazratullah Zazai will play for Sylhet in this edition of the BPL. The franchise confirmed his signing through a press release on Wednesday. However, the same announcement also revealed that Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews and United States batter Aaron Jones will not be taking part in the tournament.
According to Sylhet Titans, Angelo Mathews decided to withdraw from the competition citing personal reasons. Meanwhile, Aaron Jones has been ruled out after failing to receive the required No Objection Certificate (NOC) from his national cricket board.
As part of their squad reshuffle, Sylhet have also announced the signing of England pace-bowling all-rounder Ethan Brooks. The 24-year-old will be available for the entire season. The BPL will mark his debut in franchise cricket. Although Brooks has yet to make a major impact in domestic cricket, Sylhet are hopeful he can prove to be a valuable addition to the side.
