Bangladesh fell to a heartbreaking defeat against Sri Lanka in Colombo despite being well-placed at 100 for 2 after 16 overs. Speaking after the game, fast bowler Taskin Ahmed admitted the batting collapse was the main reason for the loss.
“We were 100 after 16 overs. Jakir was scoring a fifty, but the run out and Tamim’s wicket turned the match. After that, there was a big collapse,” Taskin said.
He rejected any blame on the pitch, saying, “If you look at how 2–3 batters played, the wicket wasn’t that bad. It’s our failure.”
Taskin also expressed frustration that the bowlers had done their job by restricting Sri Lanka 30–40 runs below par but the batting couldn't capitalize.
About the team's overall challenges, he said, “The players in this squad are the best we have. But our game awareness and mental strength still need work.”
Returning from injury after three months, Taskin admitted to feeling some rust but promised to improve.
Finally, he thanked the fans for their support: “We can't move forward without dreams. We’re trying every day. Please keep us in your prayers so we can bounce back.”
All eyes now turn to whether Bangladesh can recover in the remaining matches of the series.
