Skipper Muhammad Waseem leads from the front with a blistering 82 as UAE level the series with record run-chase. The United Arab Emirates made history last night by defeating Bangladesh for the first time in international T20 cricket. Leading from the front, UAE captain Muhammad Waseem played a match-winning knock of 82 off 42 balls to guide his team to a memorable victory.
Batting first, Bangladesh posted a daunting total of 206, but their bowlers failed to defend it as the UAE chased it down in the final over of a thrilling contest. Waseem’s innings included 9 fours and 5 sixes, setting the tone for what became the UAE’s highest successful run chase in T20 internationals.
An emotional Waseem couldn’t hide his joy during the post-match presentation. “I have no words. I’m really happy that we beat Bangladesh. I was confident we could chase this down because we know the conditions well,” he said.
Reflecting on his approach and the team’s belief, Waseem added, “I tried to play my natural game. After Rahul’s wicket, I tried to bat long but unfortunately got out. We kept believing till the end. Dhruv hit a six, Haider hit a six, and luckily, we won. We’ll go into the third match with all our strength and hope to win the series 2–1.”
Despite posting over 200 runs, Bangladesh’s bowlers were taken apart by an aggressive UAE batting lineup. The defeat not only marked Bangladesh’s first-ever T20I loss to UAE but also showcased the hosts’ growing stature in international cricket.
The series is now tied 1–1, with the decider promising high stakes and renewed intensity.
