The United States created history in Chennai by defeating the Netherlands by 93 runs in the ongoing worldcup It was USA’s first-ever T20 International victory against the Dutch side.
Batting first, the USA posted a formidable 196/6. Their 53/1 in the powerplay marked their highest score in the first six overs of a T20 World Cup match. Openers Shayan Jahangir (20) and captain Monank Patel (36) provided a solid start. Playing his first match of the tournament, Saiteja Mukkamalla smashed an explosive 79 off 51 balls, hitting five fours and four sixes. Shubham Ranjane added late impetus with a quickfire 48 off 24 balls to take the USA to 196/6. For the Netherlands, Bas de Leede claimed 3/37 to offer some resistance.
Chasing 197, the Netherlands came under pressure early. Nosthush Kenjige struck with the very first ball, while Harmeet Singh quickly dismissed Max O’Dowd to double the advantage. One of the tournament’s leading wicket-takers, Shadley van Schalkwyk, removed Colin Ackermann.
Harmeet continued to dominate, dismissing Bas de Leede at the end of the powerplay and later sending back Dutch captain Scott Edwards. He wrapped up his spell by trapping Roelof van der Merwe LBW to finish with impressive figures of 4/21. Van Schalkwyk took three wickets, while Mohammad Mohsin picked up two.
The Netherlands were bowled out for just 103 in 15.5 overs, sealing a commanding 93-run victory for the USA.
