Litton Das surpasses Mushfiqur Rahim in stumpings, becomes top wicketkeeper. Litton Das now holds the record for most runs and most fifties for Bangladesh in T20 cricket. He is also just 71 runs away from reaching the milestone of 3000 runs in Test cricket, becoming the sixth Bangladeshi batsman to achieve this feat.
Before reaching this milestone, Litton Das surpassed Mushfiqur Rahim's record for most stumpings in Test cricket for Bangladesh. He achieved this record by stumping Irish batter Lorcan Tucker at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Litton had previously shared the record with Mushfiqur Rahim after stumping Lahiru Udara in the first Test against Sri Lanka. Mushfiqur had 15 stumpings at that time. Litton stumped Tucker off Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the 68th over, taking the lead in stumpings.
Litton added another stumping to his tally when he dismissed Andy McBrine off Mehidy Hasan Miraz's bowling just a few overs later. This brought his total stumpings in Test cricket to 17, the most by any Bangladeshi wicketkeeper.
Mushfiqur Rahim still holds the record for most stumpings across all formats with 101 stumpings. Litton's total stumpings now stand at 34, placing him third among Bangladeshi wicketkeepers.
The record for most stumpings in Test cricket is held by Bert Oldfield with 52 stumpings in 54 Tests.
On a day marked by Litton's record-breaking performance, Bangladesh's spinners Mehidy Hasan Miraz and debutant Hasan Murad kept the Irish batsmen under control. At the end of the first day, Miraz had taken 3 wickets, and Murad had taken 2 wickets. Ireland ended the day at 270/8.
