New Record in T20 History, Bhutans Sonam Yeshey Makes History with Eight-Wicket Haul
Bhutan’s young spinner Sonam Yeshey has created history in T20 International cricket. By claiming a record eight wickets in a single match, he has become the first bowler in T20 history to achieve this remarkable feat.
The 22-year-old left-arm spinner delivered a sensational performance against Myanmar, picking up eight wickets for just seven runs in his four overs. His devastating spell dismantled Myanmar’s batting line-up. Chasing Bhutan’s target of 127 runs, Myanmar were bowled out for just 45.
With this victory, Bhutan completed a 5–0 whitewash in the five-match T20I series. Sonam Yeshey finished the series as the most successful bowler, taking a total of 13 wickets.
Previously, six bowlers had taken seven wickets in a single T20 International innings—two in men’s cricket and four in women’s cricket. In women’s T20Is, the best bowling figures belong to Indonesia’s Rohmalia, who claimed seven wickets without conceding a run against Mongolia in 2024. In men’s T20Is, the previous best figures were held by Malaysia’s Syazrul Idrus, who took seven wickets for eight runs against China.
Sonam Yeshey had announced his arrival on the international stage with a three-wicket haul on his T20I debut against Malaysia in 2022. Since then, he has continued to impress, collecting 38 wickets in 35 matches and establishing himself as one of Bhutan’s finest bowlers.
