Mumbai Indians Sign Jonny Bairstow, Charith Asalanka, and Richard Gleeson
As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 heads toward the playoffs, Mumbai Indians have made significant foreign player changes to their squad. Will Jacks, Ryan Rickelton, and Corbin Bosch will leave the tournament after the final league match due to national team commitments. In their place, the franchise has signed Jonny Bairstow, Charith Asalanka, and Richard Gleeson.
English wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow has been roped in for ₹5.25 crore as a replacement for Will Jacks. A seasoned T20 campaigner, Bairstow is expected to add firepower to the Mumbai top order with his aggressive batting style and experience in high-pressure games.
Replacing Ryan Rickelton is England pacer Richard Gleeson, who joins the side at a reserve price of ₹1 crore. Known for his death-over skills and variation in pace, Gleeson brings a strategic edge to Mumbai’s bowling attack, especially in crunch situations.
Meanwhile, Sri Lankan left-handed batter Charith Asalanka has been brought in at ₹75 lakh as a replacement for all-rounder Corbin Bosch. Asalanka is anticipated to bring much-needed stability to the middle order and has been in solid form in limited-overs formats.
However, these new signings will only be available to the team from the playoff stage, and only if Mumbai Indians qualify for the final four. Based on current performance and standings, MI remain in strong contention for a playoff spot.
