Dhumketu XI made an impressive start to the Undommo Bangladesh T20 Cup, a tournament introduced as an alternative to the World Cup, with a convincing six-wicket victory over Duronto XI. Riding on effective batting performances from Litton Das and Saif Hasan, Dhumketu chased down the target with ease on Thursday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

After losing the toss and being sent in to bat, Duronto XI came under pressure from the outset. Losing wickets at regular intervals, they were bowled out for 143 in 19.5 overs. Dhumketu’s disciplined bowling attack did not allow any batter to build a substantial partnership.

In reply, Dhumketu began the chase with an aggressive approach. Openers Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Saif Hasan put on 34 runs in just 2.5 overs. Tamim departed after scoring 17 off 8 balls, but Saif held one end firmly and went on to register a half-century. His innings of 50 off 30 balls included four fours and three sixes.

After Saif’s dismissal, captain Litton Das took charge of the chase and ensured there were no further hiccups. Leading from the front, Litton played a composed and fluent knock, remaining unbeaten on 65 off 43 balls, striking ten boundaries. Dhumketu reached the target in 16.1 overs, losing four wickets.

For Duronto XI, Meherab Hossain was the standout bowler, picking up three wickets for 23 runs in his four overs. Ripon Mondol claimed one wicket.

Earlier, Duronto XI struggled with the bat, with only opener Mahfizul Islam showing some resistance. He top-scored for the team with 39 off 36 balls. Captain Akbar Ali contributed 18 runs off 10 balls but failed to convert his start into a big innings.

Among Dhumketu’s bowlers, Rishad Hossain was the most successful, taking three wickets for 21 runs in four overs. Shariful Islam and Tanzim Hasan Sakib chipped in with two wickets each.
