At Mirpur in Dhaka, Nahid Rana single-handedly dismantled the New Zealand batting lineup with raw pace and disciplined bowling, providing Bangladesh a major boost in their fight to stay alive in the series.
On Monday, in the second ODI, New Zealand elected to bat first after winning the toss. However, they were bundled out for 198 runs in 48.4 overs as Bangladesh bowlers kept applying pressure throughout the innings, forcing regular breakthroughs.
Nahid Rana emerged as Bangladesh’s biggest weapon, delivering a fiery spell of 10 overs for just 32 runs while taking 5 wickets. He had earlier claimed a five-wicket haul against Pakistan in March, and once again produced a similar performance against New Zealand.
Although New Zealand started cautiously, they soon lost momentum. Nick Kelly fought from one end with a brilliant 83-run knock, but he received little support from the other batters, and the innings never gained real stability.
For Bangladesh, alongside Nahid Rana’s heroics, Shoriful Islam and Taskin Ahmed picked up two wickets each, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Rishad Hossain shared the remaining wickets. Chasing a target of 185, Bangladesh now face a must-win situation to keep the series alive.
