Shamim Patowary’s inventive shot in the first T20I against New Zealand in Chattogram has stirred widespread discussion. His eye-catching six—played with a no-look scoop over the wicketkeeper’s head—remains a major talking point among cricket fans. With the second match washed out by rain, the third T20I in Mirpur has turned into a series decider. Ahead of this crucial game, Shamim addressed the media and spoke about his much-discussed shot.

At the press conference, he offered an open explanation of his batting style and his inclination toward innovative stroke play. Shamim made it clear that he himself does not know the exact name of the shot, but emphasized that it is part of his regular practice routine. He said, “Honestly, I don’t know the name of the shot. But I practice it regularly in the nets because when I go out to bat, I really enjoy playing improvised shots. So I keep working on these all the time.”

Speaking about his approach at the crease—particularly his use of areas like fine leg—Shamim highlighted his tactical mindset. He explained how he tries to capitalize on the opposition’s field setup. In his words, “In terms of mindset… when I go out to bat, the field setup is often a bit different. So that actually works as a benefit for me.”

He was also asked whether he had been working specifically on that shot in the nets with batting coach Mohammad Ashraful. Shamim responded in a straightforward manner, stressing that the focus is on maintaining the same intent as in a match. He said, “Nothing special, just normal practice. I’m focusing on keeping the same intent that I have during matches, so that’s what I’m working on.”
