Ishan Kishan Ruled Out of Second T20I Due to Injury
India have suffered a major setback ahead of the second match of their ongoing five-match T20I series against New Zealand. Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has been ruled out of the second match due to an injury. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the development in a statement on Friday.
According to the BCCI, Kishan sustained an injury to his right adductor muscle during the first T20I. As a result, he will be unavailable for Saturday’s match. The board’s medical team is closely monitoring his condition.
Kishan played a key role in India’s historic victory over New Zealand in the opening match of the series on Thursday. At Hagley Oval in Christchurch, the visitors chased down a mammoth target of 226 runs, securing a four-wicket victory with two balls to spare. It was India’s highest successful run chase in the history of T20I cricket.
In the first match, openers Sanju Samson (67) and Abhishek Sharma (29) gave India an impressive start. Shreyas Iyer (42), Naman Dhir (an unbeaten 42) and Axar Patel (24) then made crucial contributions to guide India to a memorable victory.
The two teams will meet again at Hagley Oval on Saturday for the second T20I. India, leading the series 1-0, will look to maintain their winning momentum, while the Black Caps will be eager to level the series.
