Pakistan Beat Sri Lanka as Captain Farhan Leads the Charge

Pakistan took a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series after defeating visiting Sri Lanka, powered by a blistering half-century from captain Sahibzada Farhan. Chasing Sri Lanka’s target of 183, the hosts secured victory in 18.5 overs.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. Recovering from an early setback, the visitors posted 182 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks largely to a career-best 91 from opener Lahiru Udara.

After losing two wickets for just 18 runs, Udara steadied the innings with Kamindu Mendis, adding 60 runs for the third wicket. He then combined with Dasun Shanaka to put on 57 runs for the fifth wicket. Udara produced a spectacular knock of 91 off 55 balls, striking 10 fours and four sixes. It was the highest individual T20I score by a Sri Lankan batter against Pakistan, surpassing Kusal Perera’s previous record of 84, set in Dubai in 2013.

Sri Lanka managed to strengthen their total by scoring 66 runs in the final six overs. For Pakistan, fast bowler Naseem Shah claimed three wickets for 36 runs, while debutant Mohammad Imran picked up two wickets for 21 runs.

In pursuit of the challenging 183-run target, Farhan and Fakhar Zaman gave Pakistan a flying start, piling up 54 runs in the first five overs. Although Fakhar departed for 21 off 13 balls, Pakistan maintained their aggressive approach. Farhan then joined forces with Maaz Sadaqat, who came in at number three, to put the Sri Lankan bowlers under sustained pressure. The pair added 92 runs for the second wicket, with Maaz smashing a quickfire 50 off just 30 deliveries, including four fours and three sixes.

Captain Farhan led from the front with a match-winning 89 off 53 balls, featuring 10 fours and four sixes. Although Hasan Nawaz and Saim Ayub fell in quick succession later in the innings, Pakistan had little trouble completing the chase and securing a convincing victory.
