Essex Cricketer Robin Das Charged with Rape, Suspended by Club

Essex cricketer Robin Das, 24, has been charged with two counts of rape and is set to appear at Inner London Crown Court on October 9.

The charges stem from an allegation made by a woman who reported being raped in Brixton on March 30, 2024. Das was subsequently arrested on August 27, 2025, and the Metropolitan Police officially charged him on July 23, 2026.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said: "Robin Das of Queens Road, Waltham Forest, was charged on 23 July with two counts of rape. The charges follow his arrest on 27 August 2025 following reports of a woman being raped in Brixton on 30 March 2024. The woman continues to be supported by specialist officers."

The charges were brought just two days after Das made his first and only first-team appearance of the season for Essex against Middlesex in the One-Day Cup. Following the charges, Essex County Cricket Club immediately suspended him from all club activities.

Essex County Cricket Club stated: "Essex County Cricket Club can confirm that a male member of the playing staff, currently under contract with the club, recently appeared in court in relation to an incident that took place outside club activities. Throughout, the club has remained in contact with the ECB, PCA, and the Cricket Regulator with regard to the matter, which included an immediate and ongoing suspension. As legal proceedings are in progress, the club is unable to make any further comment at this time."

Das made his senior debut for Essex in 2020 and has since featured in nine first-class matches for the county. He notably scored a century against the touring Ireland team in 2023 and played a key role in helping Essex reach the T20 Blast final that same season.
