Shakib Issue Tamim Calls for Equal Perspective, Not One-Sided Focus

Recent remarks from newly elected Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Tamim Iqbal have sparked fresh discussion regarding the board’s stance on former cricketers and their potential return to the country. Speaking at a press conference, he indicated that discussions should not revolve around a single player but should consider all former captains facing similar circumstances.

Explaining the context during the press conference, Tamim Iqbal said that it is not appropriate to focus on only one former captain when discussing the current situation of retired leaders. In this regard, he stated:

“We have been talking about a particular cricketer for the last one and a half to two years. But Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Naeemur Rahman Durjoy, and Shakib Al Hasan—these three former captains are in similar situations. So it is not right to talk about only one person.”

Through this statement, he emphasized that the ongoing discussion surrounding Shakib Al Hasan should also include other former captains who are in comparable circumstances.

He also urged journalists to ensure balanced questioning, suggesting that all relevant names should be included rather than focusing on one individual. While addressing the issue of players’ return and participation, Tamim further clarified the board’s supportive stance on cricket-related matters.

He said:

“Wherever we can help in cricketing matters, we are always there. If they resolve their issues and come back, we will welcome them with open arms.”

This indicates that the BCB has no objection to players returning once their external or personal issues are resolved.

The Youth and Sports Ministry’s flexible position on the matter was also mentioned during the press conference. Overall, Tamim Iqbal’s remarks suggest that while the issue remains under discussion, the path toward resolution is still open and depends largely on initiative and coordination from the concerned parties.
