Bangladesh Womens Team Reach Asian Games Semi-Finals Without Playing
The quarter-final clash between Bangladesh and China could not be held at Korogi Sports Park in Nagoya on Wednesday due to heavy rainfall. With the match washed out, Bangladesh, the higher-ranked team, advanced directly to the semi-finals in accordance with the tournament’s playing regulations.
Rain began well before the scheduled toss time in the morning local time in Japan. As water accumulated and severely damaged the outfield, match officials made every effort to get the ground ready. However, with conditions failing to improve, the umpires were ultimately forced to call off the match, prioritizing the players’ safety.
Bangladesh are currently ranked 10th in the ICC T20 rankings, while China are placed 37th. Because of the significant gap between the two teams, the Tigresses secured a place in the semi-finals without any further contest after the match was abandoned.
In the next round, Bangladesh could face the strong Indian side, who are set to take on hosts Japan in another quarter-final. With an opportunity to continue their run of winning medals, the Bangladesh camp will now be fully focused on making the most of this chance.
