Ishan and Tilaks blazing fifties power India to series-clinching 90-run win over Zimbabwe

Brilliant half-centuries from Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma, followed by a disciplined all-round bowling performance, guided India to a commanding 90-run victory over Zimbabwe in the second T20I. The win at Harare Sports Club gave Shreyas Iyer’s side an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, sealing the contest with one game to spare.

After being asked to bat first, India did not enjoy the best of starts. Opener Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for 8 with the team score on just 10. Young opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi then provided a quick-fire cameo, smashing 20 off only 9 balls with three fours and a six before departing.

Ishan Kishan and captain Shreyas Iyer steadied the innings with a 66-run partnership for the third wicket. Iyer contributed 25 before being dismissed. Kishan then joined forces with vice-captain Tilak Varma, and the left-handed duo launched a brutal assault on the Zimbabwe bowlers, taking complete control of the match within a few overs.

Kishan produced a superb knock of 81 from 44 deliveries, striking nine fours and two sixes before being dismissed. At the other end, Tilak Varma reached his half-century in just 23 balls and remained unbeaten on 60 off 29 deliveries, an innings featuring five fours and three sixes. Late contributions from Rinku Singh (12) and Shivam Dube (6 not out) helped India post an imposing total of 219/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

Chasing a daunting target of 220, Zimbabwe came under pressure from the outset against India’s disciplined bowling attack. Brian Bennett showed some resistance with 32 off 19 balls, but captain Sikandar Raza (1), Ben Curran (2), and Dion Myers (14) all failed to make significant contributions.

Losing wickets at regular intervals, Zimbabwe were eventually bowled out for just 129 in 17.5 overs, handing India a comprehensive 90-run victory and the T20I series.
