Shakibs Impactful Cameo Helps Jaffna Kings Secure Thrilling Five-Run Victory in LPL

Jaffna Kings, featuring world-renowned all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, faced Colombo Strikers, represented by Bangladeshi right-arm pacer Hasan Mahmud, in the seventh match of the Lanka Premier League. In a nail-biting contest at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Jaffna Kings edged Colombo Strikers by just five runs to register a thrilling victory.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Jaffna Kings posted a competitive total of 179 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs. Coming in to bat during the closing stages of the innings, Shakib Al Hasan made a valuable contribution with an unbeaten 10 off just five balls, including one boundary, providing his side with a crucial late boost.

On the other hand, it was a difficult outing with the ball for Bangladeshi pacer Hasan Mahmud. Bowling his full quota of four overs for Colombo Strikers, he went wicketless while conceding 39 runs.

Chasing a target of 180, Colombo Strikers fought hard from the outset to stay in the contest. Shakib also made an impact with the ball, delivering two overs and claiming the key wicket of the dangerous Ben McDermott while conceding 19 runs.

Hasan Mahmud came in to bat at No. 9 during the closing stages of the chase but managed just one run from three deliveries before being bowled by Dilshan Madushanka.

Despite Colombo’s spirited effort, Jaffna Kings’ bowlers held their nerve in the final overs, restricting the opposition to 174 for 9. The five-run victory ensured a dramatic win for Shakib’s side, while Hasan Mahmud and Colombo Strikers were left to settle for a narrow defeat.
